Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence

Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence

The onset of 2020 found Covid-19 spreading throughout the world. Policymakers employed diverse methods to minimize the outbreak’s impact. Political trust appeared to be a crucial determinant of virus control. Where political trust was high, the citizens tended to abide by the governmental guidelines. Recognizing the importance of political trust in the process of dealing with health emergencies, the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on Improving Institutional Trust in Times of Pandemics (IITTP) aims at designing methods for restoring political trust. To do so, it will examine the role of political trust in the inoculation of Covid-19 vaccines rates in three European (Portugal, Bulgaria & Greece) and three Asian (Indonesia, Hong Kong & Singapore) administrations.

The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence is co-funded by the European Union and the Hong Kong Baptist University. The IITTP project runs until November 2025 and the Centre has already organized an initial mapping workshop in May 2023. Three academic articles have been published as a result of the first year of activities. The Centre will organise an upcoming webinar on January 12, 2024 and a comparative workshop on the six administrations of concern for the project on May 24, 2024.
