Background
Dr. Martin Chung is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Government and International Studies (GIS) and Associate Coordinator of GIS Programme at Hong Kong Baptist University. He holds a PhD from the University of Hong Kong (2014; Outstanding Research Postgraduate Student awardee, HKU Postgraduate Studentship, Macau Government Research Postgraduate Scholarship), a master’s in European Studies from the University of Macau (2008; excellent thesis awardee, full scholarship), and a bachelor’s in Advertising Management from De La Salle University in Manila (2002; cum laude, best thesis awardee, National Ad & Promo Champion). From 2014-2016, he was Research Assistant Professor of the European Union Academic Programme Hong Kong. Previously, he had also worked as a lecturer at the Instituto Inter-Universitário de Macau (now University of St. Joseph) from 2007-2009. In addition, he has held visiting research positions at Queen's University Belfast, University College Dublin, and the University of Bonn. He is the recipient of the General Education (GE) Teaching Award (Individual) in 2021/22. His latest book project is “Secularism and Sectarianism in Northern Ireland”, which he plans to complete by 2023.
