Background

Dr. Martin Chung is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Government and International Studies (GIS) and Associate Coordinator of GIS Programme at Hong Kong Baptist University. He holds a PhD from the University of Hong Kong (2014; Outstanding Research Postgraduate Student awardee, HKU Postgraduate Studentship, Macau Government Research Postgraduate Scholarship), a master’s in European Studies from the University of Macau (2008; excellent thesis awardee, full scholarship), and a bachelor’s in Advertising Management from De La Salle University in Manila (2002; cum laude, best thesis awardee, National Ad & Promo Champion). From 2014-2016, he was Research Assistant Professor of the European Union Academic Programme Hong Kong. Previously, he had also worked as a lecturer at the Instituto Inter-Universitário de Macau (now University of St. Joseph) from 2007-2009. In addition, he has held visiting research positions at Queen's University Belfast and University College Dublin. He is the recipient of the General Education (GE) Teaching Award (Individual) in 2021/22. His latest book project is “Secularism and Sectarianism in Northern Ireland”, which he plans to complete by 2023.
