I hold an MPhil and a DPhil in Politics from the University of Oxford, and I completed a B.A. in Public Administration at Korea University. Prior to my current position, I was a Fritz Thyssen Research Fellow at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) and a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Tokyo.
My primary research interests lie in political representation, comparative welfare states, gender, and legislative politics. I have been working as the principal investigator for the ‘Gender and Policy-Vote Trade-Offs’ project, supported by the Early Career Scheme (ECS) grant. I have led a cross-regional research project, ‘Global Mass-Elite Democracy (GMED),’ and, relatedly, have recently published a book entitled ‘Mass-Elite Representation Gap in Old and New Democracies: Critical Juncture and Elite Agency’ (University of Michigan Press, 2024).
At HKBU, I have been serving as the Co-Chair of Gender Studies Concentration and the Deputy Chair of Comparative Governance and Policy Research Centre (CGPC).
